Assignment: You will work with one of your classmates to write and compare and contrast essay about two Chicago neighborhoods.
Length: 400-600 words
Due Date: 2 weeks
Parts of the assignment:
1. comment on one podcast
2. share the outline of your essay
3. actually visit the neighborhoods you are writing about and take picutes to document
4. peer edit one classmate's essay
5. post your essay on the Wordpress blog. Must also include at least two relevant photos of the group members in the neighborhoods you are writing about.
Details:
In a compare and contrast essay, you write about the ways in which two things are similar and the ways in which they are different.
Now that you all have been living here for at least 3 months, you probably know a lot about the city. You might even have heard, when talking to a long-term resident, that Chicago is a "city of neighborhoods." If you weren't sure what this meant, don't worry - you'll find out soon.
In this assignment, we are going to use Chicago as material for our writing. First, you will choose two Chicago neighborhoods that you find interesting, then you will research, visit, and write about how they compare and contrast to each other. The final product will be an essay, which will be posted on a website, along with pictures that you took while visiting the neighborhoods.
The following is the schedule for the next two weeks, with basic information about what we will do in class and what you will have to do for homework.
